New photos up!
It's been a busy 18 months at Lotus Blossom Martial Arts. Besides training hard, Sabumnim Parnell and his students have been participating in a variety of activities, and a lot of photos have been taken to document the various events. Take a look at some of the photos of those activities (click on the photo to be takent to that event's photo page):

Team Lotus returns from Korea
Sabumnim Parnell recently took a team to the 2008 HaiDong Gumdo World Championships in South Korea. The team members were: Sabumnim Troy Yoho (who teaches HaiDong Gumdo in Layton), Sabumnim Felipe Quintana, Evan Magelsen, Justin Filippeli, Cathleen Martinez, David Skousen, and Steve Chadwick.
The team did very well, including Dave taking Samurang in the adult world color belt division in Individual Gumbub (the first non-Korean to do so) and Evan taking bronze in the international youth black belt division in Individual Gumbub. The school also got the "Excellent Dojang" award, one of only three dojangs (out of several thousand represented) to receive that honor.
Be sure to congratulate each of the team members on a job well done the next time you see them!
Did you catch that?
One of the most difficult things about catching martial artists on film is the fact that everything happens so fast. While Sabumnim is constantly shouting at students to go faster, parents who are trying to catch a good photo are constantly wishing everything would slow down.
Fortunately, technology can leand a helping hand. A collection of short animated photos have been posted of students breaking boards at the black belt test.
It takes a very long time to prepare each one, but I hope you will agree the results are great. Because of the lengthy preparation requirements for each shot, only the board breaking shots are ready so far. More will follow soon. But in the meantime, please enjoy these.
Pass em along
Did you snap a great shot at any test? Have a photo of a friend that you would like to share? Well, go for it.
Pass your photos along to Sabumnim Parnell so we can all enjoy them here on the school web site. The easiest way to give us your photos is to put them on a CD. But there are many other ways:
- Send an email to webm@lbsma.com
- Bring in prints - we can scan them
- Just bring in your camera. Sabumnim Parnell usually has his laptop and an attachment that can read memory cards from just about any camera.
So don't be shy - pass em along for everyone to enjoy.

Sabumnim Parnell's training
Marshall Parnell is not the sort of man to sit back and watch life from the sidelines. While the majority of the population was either sleeping in or watching cartoon reruns, Master Parnell chose to spend his Saturday mornings training.
These amazing pictures were taken by professional photographer David Skouse.
